ARTIST: Lyle Lovett
ALBUM: The Road to Ensenada (1996)
I was in a local cd/dvd "Buy,Sell or Trade" store when I decided to look in the Lyle Lovett section. I think I have 4 of his albums, but I hadn't listened to him in a while, so I picked this up... one that I browsed curiously by several times in the past. Upon reading the lineup of musicians, I thought to myself... this has got to be good. The core line-up includes Dean Parks(guitars), Leland Sklar(bass), Matt Rollings(piano), Paul Franklin(pedal steel), Luis Conte(percussion) and Russell Kunkel(drums), who happens to be one of my all-time favorite drummers. This is a really up beat album for Lyle, with a few of his usual zany, tongue-in-cheek twists and obscure little ballads, but for the most part, it's a straight-up, easy listen by one of the best wordsmiths out there. This is a great one for people wanting to discover what Lyle is about.
