REVIEW: D.C.-area troubadour Tom Forsey arrives armed with the expressive vocal rasp of Warren Zevon, the melodic intuition of Mark Knopfler and the little-details lyricism of Ryan Adams.  A bucket o’ hype?  Following a big-skies opening ballad, Forsey dives right in with “Simple Life,” a harp, mandolin and twang-guitar chugathon about looking back and not regretting a damn thing; it’s more Big Pink than Beltway.  The caustic, bottleneck-fueled “Let the Anchor Take ‘em Down” is as rowdy as NRBQ and more spleen-venting than a barrelful of Graham Parkers.  And the nocturnal heartache oozing from “Undeniably Bound” is one part Dire Straits and several parts Muscle Shoals (the latter courtesy keyboard legend Tommy Lepson’s smoky organ, plus soulful harmony vocals by ex-Hurricane Lamp Eric Tischler, who also coproduces).  Americana never sounded sweeter, and with The Simple Things you can, quite simply, believe the hype.
